Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s children will most likely not be given royal titles, says royal author and historian Carolyn Harris.

While speaking on BBC’s “One Show” (via Express), Harris said that this decision will be solely up to Queen Elizabeth II. “Princess Eugenie’s children will not have titles unless the Queen decides to bestow an earldom on Jack Brooksbank,” she said.

Titles are typically passed down the male line of royal families, and Brooksbank doesn’t have a royal title. If the Queen opts to not give him one then all of his children will be classified as commoners.

James Brookes, a royal expert, previously told Express that Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice have titles so it wouldn’t be unusual for the Queen to give Brooksbank an Earldom title.

“Of course, it’s down to personal choice as to whether he accepts it. Princess Anne’s first husband Mark Philips turned down a title it’s thought, hence why Zara and Peter don’t have one of their own,” he said.

Brookes also seconded Harris’ statement regarding Princess Eugenie and Brookbank’s children having official titles.

“If Jack was to accept a title – an Earldom, for example, ’s sake – he would likely be known as The Right Honorable The Earl of […],” he said.

From there, Princess Eugenie and Brookbank’s kids will be called Viscount if he’s a boy and Lady if she’s a girl. On Oct. 12, royal fans will know if Brooksbank received an accepted a title from Her Majesty.

But regardless of whether or not Brooksbank will have an official title, Princess Eugenie’s husband is not expected to perform major royal roles like Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry. After all, Princess Eugenie herself is not considered a working royal.

After Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank’s wedding this winter, they will be seen attending more royal events together. This includes the Trooping the Colour, the Royal Ascot, Christmas Day church service, and other royal weddings.

The couple will tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The same venue where Prince Harry and Markle also wed.
