Princess Margaret Heartbreakingly Received ‘Vile One-Liners’ From Her Ex-Husband, ‘Feared’ Reading Them

Princess Margaret heartbreakingly received vile one-liners from her ex-husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones, which she normally found inside her closet. The late royal reportedly feared reading them and it came to a point where she would ask her helper to open the closet for her.

While speaking with Daily Mail, Princess Margaret’s former lady-in-waiting, Lady Anne Glenconner, described Lord Snowdon as an eccentric, unpredictable, and demanding man.

“She no longer opened her chest of drawers, she got her maid to do it instead because Tony had developed a habit of leaving nasty little notes inside. One of them said: ‘You look like a Jewish manicurist and I hate you,’” Lady Anne said.

The former lady-in-waiting added that every one that came across the late royal treated her with respect except for her own husband. Known as Tony at home, Lady Anne described him as a spiteful in creative ways, upsetting, and abusive when it came to his words.

But despite everything that she had to endure, Princess Margaret refused to abandon herself to despair.

“When Princess Margaret and I were alone, she didn’t spend hours complaining about him: she’d speak bluntly and then simply brush her latest troubles aside. One time, when Princess Margaret was unwell, another lady-in-waiting and I were asked to sit outside her room to stop her husband going in… Tony was very angry about our new role as guards, and wanted to let Princess Margaret know how he felt… He stormed off, slammed the front door and got into his car,” she said.

But at the end of the day, Princess Margaret still didn’t want to divorce her husband. One of the reasons was because Princess Margaret was religious and also because they had two children. However, in the mid-seventies, their marriage was already at breaking point.

In 1978, the couple’s divorce pushed through after Princess Margaret found out about her husband’s affair with Lucy Lindsay-Hogg. And to make things word, he got Lindsay-Hogg pregnant.
