KEY POINTS

  • An official Sony Twitter account lends credence to earlier leaks about the PS5
  • The tweet confirmed one of the leak's claims
  • The leaker also revealed a slew of details, which might be discussed when Sony launches the PS5

Sony's upcoming next-gen gaming console, the PlayStation 5, looks to be a favorite topic among gamers, particularly those who love leaks and can't wait to see the new device.

A tweet from Sony's official Twitter account, however, seems to have confirmed previous leaks about the PlayStation 5, inadvertently lending credence to a leak that contains information about the new and upcoming gaming system.

The tweet, coming from PlayStation Europe, doesn't look like it reveals any information about the PS5. The tweet simply says fans should “Expect updates on PlayStation, PS4, PS5, PS VR, PlayStation Store and more.” There's nothing in this line that should cause a lot of noise among fans.

What's interesting in that tweet, however, is the line beneath the account's handle. The short line simply says, “It's time to play.”

While those four words seem to mean nothing, PushSquare says it means a lot. First, those four words replace the slogans that Sony has used for earlier PlayStation models. The slogans “For the Players” and “Best Place to Play” have now been replaced with “it's time to play.”

Now why does this matter? Last week, a leak surfaced in the 4chan boards, claiming that the PlayStation 5's slogan will be “it's time to play.” The leak has since been deleted, but given that the leak came a week before the PlayStation Europe account's bio was changed, it seems that the leak actually had some weight to it.

The leaker who made that claim also revealed some of the things that Sony will talk about during the PS5's launch, BGR reported.

The leaker simply said “Buzz words for the console’s features include “little to no load times,” “blazing fast downloads,” “immersive controls,” “modular installs for games, download whatever,” “disc drive included,” and “download the games, or stream the games as an option” (we’re looking at you Stadia).”

Given that the leaker was correct in claiming that the PS5 will use “It's time to play,” it's entirely possible that Sony will indeed talk about these things during the next-gen console's launch day, which might not be far away if rumors are to be believed.
