  • An FCC listing has revealed an all-black version of the PS5 DualSense controller
  • Traditionally, PlayStation controllers have been gray or black when the console is launched
  • More variants and special edition controllers could follow based on game-specific releases

Almost from the moment the white DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 was unveiled in April, fans had begun wondering what it would look like in black. However, they may not need to wonder any longer.

A series of tweets from @welltest789, first spotted by VGC, has revealed what an all-black controller will look like.

Due to the numerous fakes that have popped up since April, legitimacy was, of course, the first question regarding these images. However, the Twitter user attached the listing from the United States’ Federal Communications Commission, which published the new photos showing the black PS5 DualSense controller.

The images from the official FCC listing provided every angle of the DualSense controller. Some internal images were also included in the posts.

Per VGC, this is the second time the FCC has approved a black DualSense controller, but the latest one shows a version with black face buttons unlike the other.

This should not come as such a surprise to most due to the changeability of the colors of older PlayStation controller generations. In July, a company in the United Kingdom even offered 24K gold and 18K rose gold variants of the PlayStation 5.

It stands to reason that it is only a matter of time before other variants of the PS5 and the DualSense controllers will hit the market. Early adapters might not have the patience to wait that long, but rumors of a possible shortage in supply for the Nov. 12 launch may force them to wait a little longer before getting the next-gen consoles.

For now, Sony continues to reveal new functions and features of the default, white-hued DualSense controllers. These include technology that recognizes how a gamer holds the controller, longer battery life and the ability to identify its players.

Meanwhile, a few peripheral accessories will start shipping almost two weeks before the PlayStation 5's launch on Nov. 12.

According to the PlayStation website, the DualSense controller, HD Camera, Media Remote, DualSense Charging Station and Pulse 3D Wireless Headset are all set for release on Oct. 30.
