The COVID-19 pandemic affected the world negatively, but to the gaming industry and game enthusiasts, this year is not all bad. 2020 is the destined year for the arrival of next generation gaming consoles from Microsoft and Sony. Fans have high expectations from the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but a new report claims that the upcoming gaming consoles might not be able to live up to fans’ expectations, at least in the first year.
Xbox Series X and PS5 both promised to deliver unprecedented performance and achieve frame rates as high as 120. Windows Central, however, pointed out that the past week has somehow served as illumination for eager fans. The site underlined that despite the promise of improved gaming experience, it looks like gamers will still have to settle to the 30 frames per second setting.
On the part of Microsoft, Xbox Games Marketing General Manager Aaron Greenberg recently shared that the Xbox Series X would deliver the standard output of 60 FPS. A day later, Ubisoft confirmed that its upcoming game, “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla,” would run at 30 FPS on Microsoft’s next generation gaming console. Following this revelation, Greenberg claimed that the 60 FPS is not mandatory.
Epic Games recently announced that Unreal Engine 5 would support both Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. it also released a demo of impressive footage with stunning lighting and textures. As reported by Digital Foundry, the PS5 video was rendering at 30 FPS and 1440p. The gaming console did not even feature ray-tracing, which is one of the heavily speculated features of Sony’s next generation gaming console that would offer more dynamic reflections and lighting.
It would take time for engines to get optimized for the next generation gaming consoles. The samples are limited and do not paint the entire picture of what the Xbox Series and PS5 would offer when they arrived sometime in the holiday of 2020. it would take at least a year for developers to utilize the best of the next generation consoles’ abilities. After all, the gaming industry has not yet seen the actual in-game video that reveals the Xbox Series X or the PS5.
