KEY POINTS

  • PSG is not bothered by rumors of Kylian Mbappe leaving the club
  • Lionel Messi is expected to join Mbappe and Neymar at least for this season
  • Messi is ready to start a new chapter in his career with the Parisians

Paris Saint-Germain is likely to enjoy having three world-class attackers and not two.

The arrival of Lionel Messi to PSG has immediately sparked rumors of Kylian Mbappe possibly being sold to another club.

However, the narrative is completely different back in Paris as reputable transfer insider Fabrizio Romano bared that the Ligue 1 side is “very relaxed” about Mbappe’s situation.

“I think [Kylian] Mbappé will continue at Paris Saint-Germain this year,” Romano told El Larguero. “At PSG they are very relaxed with the financial [Financial] Fair Play (rule).”

As things stand, Mbappe is still being linked to a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid, and the signing of Messi could potentially trigger the said transfer.

Mbappe’s current contract with PSG is set to expire in12 months’ time and from there, a lot of possibilities could happen.

Adding another logical insight about the subject, French football expert Jonathon Johnson predicted that regardless of the rumors, Mbappe will stay with PSG.

According to Johnson, with Messi on board, the Parisians will once again keep the Frenchman the same way they did when Neymar arrived at Parc des Princes, at least until this year ends.

“People are trying to put two and two together,” Johnson told talkSPORT 2. “And they are saying that it means Mbappe is off. If you look at the way that PSG is introducing the Neymar signing, Mbappe is going nowhere. PSG has no intention of getting rid of Mbappe.”

“If anything, Messi’s arrival and the strength that it brings to the team, and to the club as well, it makes PSG’s argument stronger to Mbappe to extend his stay in Paris, past the end of this year,” he continued.

Looking at how PSG’s teaser for Messi’s arrival strongly suggests that the club’s attack next season will feature all three superstars, rather than the Argentine dethroning Mbappe.

As for the details of Messi’s deal with PSG, the former Barcelona star has penned a two-year contract with the French side, with the option of a one-year extension.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is likely to pocket a salary of around €30-35 million ($35-41 million) a year, ESPN reported.

Messi had earlier admitted that he didn’t want to leave Barcelona. However, Camp Nou is a thing of the past now and he is ready to “begin a new chapter” with PSG.

"I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain,” Messi said in a statement. "Everything about the club matches my football ambitions. I know how talented the squad and the coaching staff are here. I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes.”
