Psyonix is finally addressing the claim that “Rocket League” would soon allow players to bet real money while playing the game. Contrary to what Seattle-based esports betting platform Unikrn announced last Tuesday, the San Diego-headquartered gaming studio is not allowing real money betting in its vehicular soccer video game.

In an interview with GameSpot, Psyonix VP if Publishing Jeremy Dunham voiced out his thoughts on the claim that real money betting is coming to “Rocket League.” Dunham set the record straight by saying that Psyonix is not at all affiliated with Unikrn and that they are not supporting or endorsing online betting for its multi-platform game.

Despite Psyonix’s statement, Unikrn CEO Rahul Sood did not recant the company’s announcement about offering odds to players. “We are not in any way associated with the publishers of Rocket League. However, we love the game, and like other titles on our sportsbook, we create odds and content on the pro matches and their top tier tournaments,” Sood said in an email sent to Gamespot on Wednesday.

Earlier, Unikrn announced on its website that “Rocket Lague” has been approved for real money betting on the company’s sportsbook. The move was said to have been made possible by regulators in Australia. Furthermore, Unikrn stated that betting will commence on Season 3 of the Rocket League Championship Series and will run until the World Championship in June. As of press time, the announcement is still up and can be viewed here.

In related news, “Rocket League,” which now has over 29 million registered players, just received a major update and the patch notes for version1.31 are now available on Rocket League’s website. Based on the patch notes, players can now enjoy the new Dropshot game mode, access the new Turbo Crate and acquire Seasonal Easter Items from March 22 until April 17.

The release of the big update comes almost two weeks after Dunham revealed to Kinda Funny Games that he and his team are not planning to release a sequel to the game yet. He said at the time that they are instead focused on making “Rocket League” “better and better so that we don’t lose any of the people that want to play.”
