The 10 New Netflix Movies And TV Shows To Watch In January
As we say goodbye to 2014 and more than 60 movies on Netflix, 2015 will see more than 30 movies and television shows added to the streaming service. From a classic TV sitcom to some great indie movies, here are 10 new Netflix additions to stream in January.
"Friends" (Jan. 1)
There was much rejoicing when Netflix announced it acquired the streaming rights to the popular '90s sitcom. All 10 seasons of "Friends" will be available for streaming beginning Jan. 1. There will be marathons, drinking games, episode guides and more for new and old viewers as they follow the lives of Joey, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Ross and Phoebe in New York.
"The French Connection" (Jan. 1)
If you haven't seen one of the best crime movies of all time, here's your chance. "The French Connection" stars Gene Hackman as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle, a New York City cop tracking a huge heroin shipment from France. The 1971 film also features a riveting car-chase scene through the streets of a very different city.
"The War of the Worlds" (Jan. 1)
The original film adaptation of H.G. Wells' story of a Martian invasion still holds up today. Even if you know all about "The War of the Worlds" from Orson Welles' 1938 radio broadcast or the 2005 remake starring Tom Cruise, the 1953 original is still worth checking out.
"Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas" (Jan. 1)
Johnny Depp perfectly captures the manic spirit and unique personality of Hunter S. Thompson in "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas." The 1998 film follows Thompson as he goes on a drug-fueled bender in Las Vegas while covering a motorcycle race. Benicio Del Toro is also fantastic as Dr. Gonzo.
"Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" (Jan. 16)
Adapted from John le Carre's novel, "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" (the 2011 Gary Oldman version) is an old-fashioned spy movie. Set in the 1970s, an old veteran comes out of retirement to find a Russian agent posing as a mole in MI6.
"Chef" (Jan. 28)
Jon Favreau directs and stars in this movie about a restaurant chef who starts over with a food truck. "Chef" was critically acclaimed during its limited release in theaters this year.
"Mean Girls" (Jan. 1)
"Mean Girls," now a decade old, will make its way to Netflix in January. Get a group of friends together, quote every line from the movie and reminisce about Lindsay Lohan's acting career.
"Frank" (Jan. 8)
Michael Fassbender stars in this movie about an eccentric musician. You may not realize Fassbender is in the movie as he spends the film wearing a giant papier-mache head.
"Election" (Jan. 1)
An underrated comedy, "Election" stars Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon. Jim McAllister (Broderick) is a civics teacher who hates the popular Tracy Flick (Witherspoon). It's a 1999 black comedy centered on McAllister's plan to stop Flick winning the school election.
"101 Dalmatians" (Jan. 1)
If your holiday plans involve younger children, you can't go wrong with this 1996 Disney classic.
