Queen Elizabeth II and Camilla Parker Bowles’ relationship has improved.
The Queen and Camilla’s relationship has remained an interesting topic to those who have been following the royal family. According to previous reports, the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II didn’t like Camilla for Prince Charles.
In Tom Bower’s book “Rebel Prince : The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles,” he discussed the strained relationship between the monarch and the heir apparent due to Camilla.
According to the author, Her Majesty “actively disapproved” of Camilla. In fact, she didn’t want to see Camilla in any royal function.
One time, Prince Charles approached his mother and asked her to end her antagonism toward his then-girlfriend. However, the Queen had drunk several martinis.
Their confrontation ended with the Queen venting her anger at her son for lying about his affair with Camilla while he was married to Princess Diana. Queen Elizabeth II even called the Duchess of Cornwall a “wicked woman.”
According to Dr. Piers Brendan in the documentary “The Royal House of Windsor,” the royals ruled out Camilla for the future king because she was a woman with “experience.” They were reportedly referring to her affairs with other men prior to Prince Charles. It was “absolutely vital” that the future Queen is a virgin and has no questionable past. Princess Diana was deemed to be the perfect bride.
Over the years, the Queen and Camilla’s relationship improved. Last year, the monarch mentioned Camilla in her speech before she proposed a toast for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday. Her Majesty recognized Camilla’s contribution in what the future king is today.
Also, last year, the duchess was given a huge role in Commonwealth. She was named the first-ever vice-patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS).
A few weeks ago, she stepped in for the Queen to welcome U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania. Camilla and Prince Charles enjoyed afternoon tea with the POTUS and FLOTUS at Clarence House ahead of the NATO reception.
Just recently, Queen Elizabeth II shared a ride with Camilla when she attended the annual Christmas morning service. According to Royal Central, the gesture showed that the Queen has high regard for her daugher-in-law.
