Queen Elizabeth II Recovering? British Monarch Looks To Be In 'Good Spirits' At Church Service After Battling 'Heavy Cold'
Queen Elizabeth II appeared to be in good spirits Sunday morning as she attended a church service following the death of her former brother-in-law Lord Snowdon, who died Friday at the age of 86. The British monarch made her second appearance at St. Mary’s Church in Flitcham, England, weeks after battling a heavy cold that forced her to skip annual royal holiday celebrations, including Christmas and New Year services.
The 90-year-old monarch wore a royal purple dress, a matching coat and a hat with a black flower on it during the mass at the church. She was also carrying her signature clear umbrella to shield her from rain. Prince Philip was with her for the church service, People magazine reported. The Duke of Edinburgh was pictured wearing a long green trench coat and grey pants.
The 45-minute service on Sunday was conducted by the Rt. Rev. Paul Williams, Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, Eastern Daily Press reported. According to People, the queen and the duke visited a woman and her family at a cottage next door before returning to Sandringham House.
The queen made her first public appearance of 2017 last Sunday when she attended the morning church service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk, after suffering from heavy cold through the festive season. The longest serving monarch's health issues gave rise to concerns over who would succeed her to the throne. The queen's illness also gave rise to rumors of her death, while some reports claimed she may decide to give up her royal duties.
In case Queen Elizabeth II dies or abdicates, her son Prince Charles will take the throne. The Duke of Wales is first in line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge. The third in line to the throne is Prince William and Kate Middleton's son, Prince George.
