Queen Elizabeth II finally met the newborn daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shortly after baby Lilibet Diana's arrival on June 4.
The introduction took place via a video call as Prince Harry and Meghan "were very excited and couldn't wait to share that their daughter arrived" as soon as they returned home from Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, a source told People. Lilibet Diana made history as the first child of senior members of the royal family to be born in the United States.
The entertainment publication reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had shared their daughter's name with the queen ahead of the baby's birth. Harry and Meghan were also inspired by the prince's late mother, Princess Diana, as they came up with a name for their baby.
Royal historian Robert Lacy previously revealed that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry share a close and "remarkable bond" that has grown since the untimely demise of Princess Diana in 1997.
"She was a sort of stepmother for both Harry and William," Lacey told People. "We have all focused on her coaching of William as the future King, but we are realizing now the importance of the emotional bonds that she's been able to establish with Harry and their ability to talk to each other directly. That affection remains."
While many royal followers love Prince Harry and Meghan's decision to their second child Lilibet, royal expert Angela Levin said that it's "rude" toward Queen Elizabeth II.
"I don't think it's a good idea — I think it's quite rude to Her Majesty Her Queen. It was a very private nickname from her husband, who hasn't been dead for very long," Levin shared during an appearance on "Good Morning Britain." "Prince Charles would never dream of calling his mother Lilibet."
However, a tipster told Page Six that Prince Harry had actually asked permission from Queen Elizabeth II before using the name. "It will have likely been a call saying that she's arrived and we'd plan to name her after you — it's not really something one can say no to. I doubt they asked — more likely informed," the source said.
Lilibet Diana is the 11th great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and the fifth grandchild of Prince Charles, joining Prince William's children George, Charlotte and Louis and her big brother Archie. She is now the eighth in line to the throne.
