Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret are the “most intriguing” royal siblings, according to one commentator.

The Queen and her younger sister share a fascinating relationship. According to royal commentator Angela Mollard, they were actually the most beguiling siblings in the royal family.

“I think of all the royal sibling it’s perhaps the Queen and the late Princess Margaret are the most intriguing,” Mollard said on the June episode of New Idea’s “Royals” podcast. “Well, I think what’s most interesting about these two is that they never expected that they would be the Queen and the sister of the Queen. Of course, they weren’t – it was going to be Edward who would take over the throne.”

The New Idea royal commentator added that there was no indication when they were little that Queen Elizabeth II would ever take the throne. However, when King Edward abdicated, their father King George VI was forced to take the throne as the next heir in the line of succession followingn King George V’s death and that suddenly positioned Queen Elizabeth II as the heir to the throne.

One time, Princess Margaret reportedly asked her older sister, “Does this mean you’ll one day become Queen?”

“Mm, I suppose it does,” the Queen responded.

Mollard said that Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret ’s father was thrust into the role as king which he wasn’t expecting. Their mother couldn’t reportedly forgave their uncle for doing so because the family used to live a simple and quiet life. They were suddenly put into the limelight following King Edward’s abdication.

Before King George V died, he reportedly said that King Edward would ruin himself within 12 months after his death (January 1936) and it turned out to be correct because King Edward abdicated the throne in the same year to pursue his love, Wallis Simpson.

In related news, many felt that Prince Harry disgraced Queen Elizabeth II in his recent environmental statement. The Duke of Sussex revealed that he only wanted two kids maximum for the environment. However, critics slammed the duke for championing the environment and failing to practice what he preaches.
