Queen Elizabeth’s 2018 Highlights Include Meghan Markle, Monarch Giggling On This Outing
Queen Elizabeth II included her solo outing with Meghan Markle in her 2018 highlights.
Buckingham Palace released a clip showcasing the royal family’s engagements in the past year on Instagram. One of the shots featured the monarch and Duchess of Sussex during their first solo outing.
In the shot, Queen Elizabeth II and Markle can be seen giggling. The two royals seemed to have a great time together based on their facial expressions.
Her Majesty and Prince Harry’s wife made their first official outing together by visiting Chester. Queen Elizabeth II invited Markle as she officially unveiled a new bridge in Widnes, Cheshire and opened the Storyhouse Theatre. They also enjoyed a sumptuous lunch at Chester’s Town Hall.
Although Markle and Queen Elizabeth II looked very happy in the said shot, insiders claimed that there were tensions during their first engagement. The Queen’s aides told the Duchess of Sussex that Her Majesty would be wearing a hat. Markle didn’t know that she was also expected to wear one. Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly “a little baffled” when Markle showed up without any headpiece.
According to royal expert Robert Jobson, Markle didn’t fully understand what the aides told her. The instruction was not a request, it was also not done just to inform her that the Queen would be wearing a hat. It was actually an order, that she had to wear one, too.
Aside from the Queen and Markle’s outing, the highlights also featured Prince William and Kate Middleton making Prince Louis’s public debut. Prince Charles’ 70th official birthday photo, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s royal wedding and the royal family reuniting in the balcony during Trooping the Colour. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s different outings together and separate engagements were also featured.
Kensington Palace also released another clip featuring the different highlights for Prince William, Middleton, Prince Harry and Markle. However, eagled-eye royal fans noticed that there was a minor error in the Duchess of Cambridge’s 2018 highlights.
Fans noticed that the palace mentioned Middleton’s first appearance after her maternity leave to have taken place in September. However, the duchess actually made her first outing after a six-month maternity leave in October at the Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden.
