Queen Elizabeth II’s stay in Balmoral is never complete without this one particular habit.

The Queen flies to Balmoral for her summer break every year. At present, she’s already in her favorite home and is often accompanied by the other members of the royal family.

Although Queen Elizabeth II is on a break, she still continues to do her habit involving the red boxes that keeps her updated about the government and parliamentary business. According to royal expert Roya Nikkhah, the Queen’s stay in Balmoral won’t be complete without her doing this.

“I think the Queen, unless she’s doing her red boxes every single day, doesn’t feel as if life goes on,” Nikkhah said on The Royal Box. “For her, although it’s her great three-month-long holiday, work goes on as usual. She still does her red boxes every single day at Balmoral, she meets prime ministers, she meets American presidents or incoming heads of state who are over up there sometimes.”

Nikkhah added that the Queen’s private secretaries are always up there and her three private secretaries rotate their schedule. She added that there’s always a court up at Balmoral with private secretaries, press secretaries, and equerries.

“It is a work holiday for her,” she added.

She added that traditionally, the prime minister also visits Queen Elizabeth II in Balmoral. She believes that the new prime minister will visit the monarch as they have a lot of things to talk about this year.

Meanwhile, according to Juliet Rieden, the Queen loves to do the “washing up” when she’s in Balmoral. She also loves good gossips about her staff.

“This is where she loves to be, this is holiday time for the Queen. She always said this is where she feels most herself and feels most free,” Rieden told Nine News. “When they are out having their barbecues, which they love to do out in the grounds of Balmoral – it’s a massive estate, the most beautiful grounds – where they literally set up a barbecue. And afterward the Queen does the washing up.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived in Scotland on Thursday. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge boarded a commercial flight amid the intense backlash Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing for flying in private jets.
