Queen Elizabeth’s most serious blunder has something to do with her favorite son Prince Andrew.

Many believe that the monarch’s favorite among her four children is the Duke of York. Author and journalist Rosa Prince shared her thoughts on the Queen and for her, the biggest mistake Her Majesty made had something to do with Prince Andrew. She was referring to the time when the mother and son were photographed just days after Virginia Giuffre accused him of having sex with her when she was just 17 years old.

“Worst of all was the error of judgement of the Queen allowing herself to be photographed beside a grinning duke while driving to church two days after legal documents naming him as Giuffre's alleged abuser were published last August,” Prince wrote in an op-ed for CNN.

“Whether or not she believed him guilty -- and she's his mother, naturally she doesn't believe him guilty - what message did this send to Epstein's alleged victims, indeed, to all victims of sexual abuse?”

Queen Elizabeth II’s decision to stick with her controversial son has received mixed reactions. While there are people like Prince who feel that her sighting with Prince Andrew is a mistake, some also acknowledged her decision because they understood that she is a mother.

“She’s a good leader for asking her son to step down from his Royal duties & also a good mother for NOT disowning her son,” one social media user wrote.

Prince Andrew addressed the controversy in an interview with Newsnight. Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice’s father denied the allegations. He even shared how they dealt with it as a family.

“This first came out in 2011...It was a surprise to all of us because the photographs were published at a different time to when I was there...as a family we discussed it,” Prince Andrew said.

“And then in 2015 when the allegations were made and the deposition, there was a sort of...and this was the immediate family not the wider family...the wider family were couldn't be more supportive...the immediate family it was ‘what’s all this about...and we were all at a loss.”

Prince Andrew’s interview backfired, for he received more criticisms after it. He was forced to step down as a working royal. In February, the Queen removed his “HRH” title when she greeted him on his birthday.
