Queen Elizabeth II is unlikely to abdicate next year.

The Queen is already 93 years old and while she is already in her ripe age, she is not slowing down when it comes to her royal duties. However, there are speculations that she might step down and abdicate to make way for the heir apparent, Prince Charles.

However, according to Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead, chances are slim that the Queen would abdicate in 2020. “The Queen doesn't seem to be planning on handing on the baton to Charles just yet and is a 10-1 chance to abdicate in 2020,” he said.

He also shared some details on what to expect from the royals in the coming years. According to him, it will be an exciting year and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are likely to make a pregnancy announcement unlike Prince William and Kate Middleton.

“The Royal family is growing every year now it seems and 2020 is sure to be another exciting one. think Harry and Meghan are very likely to announce in the next twelve months that they are expecting a second baby, and go just evens for it. William and Kate are less likely according to our odds.”

Last year, Aitkenhead also spoke about the Queen’s possible abdication. According to him, many suggested that the Queen would abdicate in 2019. Apparently, the Queen kept her throne.

Her Majesty made a promise to dedicate her life in service to the country. Thus, abdicating the throne is an unlikely move for the monarch.

“I declare before you that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service,” Queen Elizabeth II said in her 21st birthday speech in 1947. She repeated the same promise after six years when she said, “Throughout all my life and with all my heart, I shall strive to be worthy of your trust.”

Meanwhile, some believe that the Queen is keeping the throne from Prince Charles. One social media user wrote on the online forum Quora that the Queen is sacrificing herself and is holding onto the throne so that Prince Charles would be king for as short a time as possible and Prince William could succeed him shortly after.
