Rachel Zegler Attends Oscars 2022: 'Dreams Do Come True' [Photo]
Rachel Zegler confidently rocked a sexy black sheer dress on the Oscars red carpet just a week after she expressed her disappointment for failing to get an invitation to the event.
The 20-year-old "West Side Story" star expressed excitement as she walked the red carpet at the 94th Academy Awards on Sunday. She told ET in an exclusive interview that she was grateful she was invited by the Motion Picture Academy to the glitzy affair after the initial snub.
"People were upset and I was not expecting it so it's very wonderful to be here," she explained. "I'm really thankful to the Academy for asking me to present and everyone at Snow White who was able to just let me get on a plane."
Zegler said she had no clue as to why she was not invited to the event initially.
"I'll be honest, I don't know and I don't wanna know," she said. "I kind of just let it all – the chips go where they did because I was really overwhelmed with the response to it because it was a comment, I made on my own Instagram post. You don't really expect that to make the news the next day – and it was just a statement – but we're here, we're happy, we're really thankful."
The Golden Globe winner again expressed happiness when she took the stage to present the award for Best Visual Effects, along with her "Euphoria" co-star Jacob Elordi. She said, "I never thought I would be here…six days ago. Dreams do come true. Pretty fast, in fact."
Zegler first spoke about the Oscars snub on March 20 after sharing a set of photos on Instagram. When a fan commented that they were looking forward to seeing her Oscars outfit, the actress replied, "I'm not invited, so sweatpants and my boyfriend's flannel."
Fans quickly sympathized with her and asked why she was not invited to the awards show when Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" was up for several awards. Zegler replied, "I hope some last-minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that's how it goes sometimes, i guess. thanks for all the shock and outrage – i'm disappointed, too. but that’s okay. so proud of our movie."
Each film that is nominated for Best Picture will get an allotted number of tickets for the Oscars event and their respective studios will distribute the tickets to the stars, ET reported. Zegler had been in London filming for Disney's live-action movie "Snow White."
