Aaron Rodgers was “very, very mad” after Ty Montgomery’s decision to run the ball out of the end zone instead of taking a knee ended the Green Bay Packers’ chance to end the Los Angeles Rams’ unbeaten start to the season on Sunday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The Packers were trailing the Rams 29-27 with just over two minutes to go and were about to be handed the ball. It was the perfect set up for Rodgers to lead his team to yet another comeback win, but it was not be owing to a terrible decision from running back Montgomery.

Montgomery was instructed to kneel for a touchback in the ensuing kickoff after the Rams had taken the lead, but the running back ignored his coach’s instructions and took off running. When he reached the 20-yard line, Rams’ Ramik Wilson hit the running back hard, which dislodged the ball and was eventually recovered by the linebacker in the scrum.

The Packers’ players and coaches were collectively angered by Montgomery’s actions with one coach revealing that Rodgers was “hot” after the running back ignored instructions and compromised their chance to record an epic win over the undefeated NFC West franchise.

"Aaron was hot," one Packers coach told NFL.com after the game on Sunday. "And he had a right to be. He yelled, 'Take a f------ knee!' He was very, very mad."

Montgomery’s actions, according to a number of Packers players and coaches, was a rebuttal to their last offensive possession when he was removed from the game. The running back is said to have thrown a tantrum on the sidelines and an unnamed player reckons that he ignored the coach’s instructions to take a knee as a retaliation.

"They took him out (the previous drive) for a play and he slammed his helmet and threw a fit," one Packers player said. "Then (before the kickoff) they told him to take a knee, and he ran it out anyway. You know what that was? That was him saying, 'I'm gonna do me.' It's a f------ joke,” an enraged Packers player said. "I mean, what the f--- are you doing? We've got Aaron Rodgers, the best I've ever seen, and you're gonna take that risk? I mean, it's '12'! All you gotta do is give him the ball, and you know what's gonna happen."

Rodgers, however, was calmer during the post-match press conference but admitted that it was a frustrating way to lose a game everyone thought was going their way with just over two minutes remaining. The Packers quarterback praised the team’s defense for keeping the Rams out time and again and believes the offensive line could have scored more points during the same period.

"Our defense was playing really well and stopping them over and over again. We've got to get more than 10 points while that's happening,” Rodgers said, according to Complex. “And then to have it end the way it did, obviously, it's frustrating.”
