'Ramy' Instagram Set Photo Reveals First Look At Mahershala Ali Character

“Ramy” showrunner, lead, and namesake Ramy Yousseff posted a first look on his Instagram yesterday, showing off one of the show’s guest stars: Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali, whom Hulu first announced back in July of 2020 would make an appearance.

The Instagram post showed Yousseff standing next to Ali. They both hold umbrellas and face the camera with the caption reading “season two.” It is unknown if this is an on-location shoot or even if the snow on the umbrellas is real. Plot details for season 2 are few and far between.

“Ramy” follows pretty closely, plot-wise, to Youseff’s own stand-up comedy routine. Season 1 left off with Ramy and his cousin falling in love, a joke he called back to several times in his HBO stand-up special “Feelings.” Season 1 then ended with a kiss between cousins with Ramy left to question whether he should come back to America or stay in Egypt.

This sneak peek could potentially inform us of where Ramy went next. With a snowflake covered jacket and umbrella, standing next to Ali, it’s likely Ramy returned to America to continue his story there.

Dozens of celebrities hit up the Instagram post, leaving positive comments and expressing their excitement for both the second season and the appearance of Ali.

As reported by Deadline, Ali is apparently a “huge fan” of the Hulu series and that may have played a role in him getting this part.

Ali had wrapped up shooting his season of the anthology series “True Detective” when Hulu announced his appearance. This also came shortly after he was announced as the next “Blade” in Marvel’s cinematic universe remake of the character. He also previously played the villain Cottonmouth in Netflix’s MCU show “Luke Cage.”

We will get to see Ali and Yousseff side by side once more when “Ramy” season 2 premieres sometime in 2020.
