Randy Travis: 'I Apologize' for Public Intoxication Arrest
Country singer Randy Travis has switched into sorry mode after being arrested for public intoxication in Texas -- and he blames the incident on his overenthusiasm for Sunday night's big game.
I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl, Travis said in a statement provided to TheWrap. I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions.
TMZ reports that the No Holdin' Back singer was arrested for public intoxication in Sanger, about 50 miles northwest of Dallas, after police discovered him slurring, stumbling and carrying an open bottle of wine. Early on Monday morning. In front of a church.
And no, it doesn't appear that Travis was swilling sacramental wine.
Police arrested Travis after someone placed a call reporting a suspicious vehicle. Officers responding to the call found Travis in a black car with the lights off, smelling of alcohol.
According to the arresting officer, Travis attempted to explain that he had just had a fight with his girlfriend. However, the officer noted in his report, Mr. Travis' speech was slurred and I was beginning to have a hard time understanding what he was saying.
Travis was transported to a nearby jail at approximately 1:30 a.m.; after being booked and cited -- as well as posing for the delightful booking photo above -- he was released.
Travis, 52, is currently touring to celebrate his 25th anniversary in show business.
