Ukrainian forces have been conducting counterattacks on Russian troops using British 105-mm artillery systems, which were reportedly proving to be effective for Kyiv's paratroopers.

The Ukrainian Air Assault Forces Command shared a video on Facebook, detailing the advantages of the weapons.

"Artillery units of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are now skilled in the use of British 105-mm L119 howitzers and are using them in practice. They are helping Ukrainian artillery in the Kherson region to effectively hit and destroy enemy fire targets," the post read [Google Translate showed].

In the video, paratroopers said they have killed several Russian invaders with the help of 105-mm L119 howitzers. The weapons' "rapid fire and mobility are significant factors," paratroopers added.

Last month, the United Kingdom confirmed it was sending scores of artillery guns, hundreds of drones, and additional anti-tank weaponry to war-torn Ukraine in the upcoming weeks. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said in a press release that delivering the additional aid will help Ukraine fend off Russia's ruthless and unjustified invasion.

"The scale and range of equipment we are providing demonstrates the strength of our resolve. Together with our international partners, we will ensure Ukraine has the tools to defend their country from Putin's illegal invasion," Wallace said in the statement.

Six stormer vehicles equipped with Starstreak anti-air missile launchers, 16,000 artillery rounds and hundreds of missiles have already been transported to Ukraine.

The U.K. has sent 120 armored fighting vehicles, multiple launch rocket systems, maritime Brimstone missiles, and a significant amount of non-lethal equipment, which comprises over 82,000 helmets, 8,450 sets of body armor, and over 5,000-night vision gear, the release added.

Last month, the U.K. also launched a major training operation for Ukrainian forces, with the potential to train up to 10,000 soldiers.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces have also conducted long-range strikes on Russian troop bases and two key bridges across the Dnieper River overnight.

"The results [of the strikes] are rather respectable, hits on the Antonovsky and Kakhovskyi bridges," Natalia Humeniuk, a spokeswoman for Ukraine's southern military command, said on Ukrainian television, according to Al Jazeera.

Multiple military bases in Ukraine's Russian-occupied southern city of Melitopol were also struck in the early hours of Monday using US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS). The attack left several Russian troops dead, the region's exiled mayor said.

"According to preliminary estimates, a significant amount of military equipment was destroyed," Ivan Fedorov wrote on Telegram.

The fight in Ukraine has been ongoing for more than five months, with several soldiers on both sides losing their lives. Millions of people have been displaced since the war began on Feb. 24.
