A Russian man, who was convicted of rape, reportedly minced his victims' bodies in a meat grinder before feeding them to dogs.

Alexander Maslennikov, 32, was sentenced to 23 years for torturing, murdering and dismembering two women – sales assistant Daria Labutina, 29, and her friend, Olga Shaposhnikova, 28 – he met at a karaoke bar. After inviting them to his apartment in Volzhsky for pizza, he raped and brutally murdered them.

According to local reports, Labutina’s body was badly mutilated that it was impossible for forensic experts to determine whether she was raped by the culprit. However, upon interrogation, Maslennikov admitted to the police that he did have sex with her before slitting her throat and killing her in the bathroom.

Shaposhnikova, who was unaware of what had happened to her friend, smoked and ate pizza with Maslennikov. After she laughed at his joke, he tried to kiss her – an attempt which was foiled by Shaposhnikova’s refusal. At one point during their conversation, she accidentally cut herself with the pizza knife and went to the bathroom to clean herself up. That was when she discovered her friend’s body with multiple stab wounds and became frantic.

Maslennikov tied up Shaposhnikova following this and continued to smoke and drink next to her. Despite her repeated pleadings, he strangled her to death. After she was dead, he repeatedly stabbed her.

After killing both of them, he chopped one of the victims into 20 pieces and severed the legs of another. According to prosecutors, DNA of both the women was found inside a meat grinder and police records showed that Maslennikov was seen feeding some form of minced meat to dogs.

He later claimed he partially minced the bodies because completely mincing the corpses went against his “moral values.” He also went out to purchase an ax, file, spade, and plastic bin bags on the same day as the incident.

CCTV camera footage showed Maslennikov entering his apartment block with the women but leaving alone a while later carrying two sports bags. The police believe the corpses were inside those bags. He took the bags to a forest area where he broke the spade in the process of frantically digging a grave.

Maslennikov was released five months before the incident after being sentenced for rape. He had a history of rape convictions, spending a total of 11 years in prison for repeated offenses. "I express my condolences to the family and relatives. I regret what I did. I am asking the court for mercy,” he told the court, apologizing to the relatives of the victims.

In addition to 23 years in prison, he was also sentenced to two years of “limitation on freedom” after his release. However, Shaposhnikova brother, whose name was withheld, said he believed that Maslennikov should have received life imprisonment for his heinous crimes.

"I have known Alexander Maslennikov since school,” he said, Mirror Online reported. "Each of his crimes was more horrific than the last one. Such people should not be in society, not for ten, 20 or 30 years."
