Rapper Rick Ross Being Held In Georgia Jail Without Bail; Charged With Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault
Rick Ross is currently in police custody in Fayette County, Georgia. The Maybach Music Group rapper was arrested and charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault early Wednesday morning.
According to the Associated Press, both the rapper, whose real name is William Roberts, and his bodyguard were taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force. Jim Joyner, a supervisor for the Marshals’ Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, said authorities arrived at the rapper's Fayetteville County home early Wednesday, but someone inside “refused to open the gate.”
After getting passed the gate, officers were tasked with getting inside. With no cooperation from Roberts or anyone else within the home, they were forced to break it down. Joyner said neither Roberts nor his bodyguard put up “a struggle or anything.”
At the time of the incident, details leading up to Roberts’ arrest were unclear. TMZ has since learned that both charges stem from an earlier altercation with a groundskeeper. The site reports that Roberts forced the man, who has not been identified, into a spare bedroom in the home at gunpoint. Once inside he reportedly began questioning him, though it has not been revealed what the questions pertained to. When the groundskeeper did not produce answers Roberts was looking for, he allegedly pistol whipped him twice, causing injuries to both his jaw and neck and chipping two teeth. Although the extent of his injuries remains unknown, he is said to be unable to eat solid food.
Roberts remains in police custody. He has been denied bail and is being forced to stay in jail until his next court hearing on July 1.
This isn’t Roberts first run in with the law. He was arrested on June 10 after being pulled over for violating vehicle window tint regulations in the state of Georgia. Upon approaching the vehicle the officer smelled marijuana, prompting him to search the vehicle. Roberts was arrested and charged with possession, a misdemeanor offence.
Neither Maybach Music Group nor reps for the “War Ready” rapper have commented on his most recent arrest.
