Rapper's Instagram Photos Lead To Largest Gun Bust In New York City History

Oversharing on Instagram proved to be one Brooklyn rapper's vice, leading to the largest gun bust in New York City history.

Matthew Best, an aspiring New York rapper who goes by the stage name of Neno Best, posted photos and videos of several guns as well as large wads of money to his Instagram account. In the posts, he informed his followers that he was selling weapons out of his Ocean Hill recording studio, the New York Daily News reports.

New York Police Department narcotics investigators came across the posts, passing the information along to undercover NYPD officers. Upon investigation of the images, officials say an NYPD investigator uncovered a multi-state gun trafficking ring, The Verge reports.

The investigation into Best started last year and has been led by a single undercover detective that the department declined to name. The cop discovered that Best and his friend Omole Adedji were selling guns at a price of almost three times the amount they paid for the firearms. According to the New York Post, they purchased the weapons from two gunrunners, Walter Walker of Sanford, N.C., and Earl Campbell of Rock Hill, S.C. Walker and Campbell are accused of leading gun rings that brought firearms from the South to New York, where they could be sold.

In all, the NYPD says it seized 243 handguns, nine rifles and two shotguns. During a press conference held by Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Monday, all of the weapons were displayed on tables for viewing.

Police say that 36 of the guns had been reported stolen. A total of 19 individual are charged in the 552-count indictment, announced on Monday.
