- The Lakers said that they have contacted their players and staff after the news broke out
- Brooklyn Nets faced the Lakers before the NBA suspension was imposed
- Kevin Durant was the only named player among four players that turned positive for coronavirus
The announcement of Brooklyn Nets that they have four players that tested positive for Coronavirus, the talks about the last team that they played to track the group of players that potentially had contact with the players. The team last played on March 10 and got a 104-102 victory on the road.
Against what team? Los Angeles Lakers.
Reports from ESPN said that the Lakers will now take a precautionary measure as they ware about to get tested for coronavirus. The team will also do self-quarantine for 14 days after they played the Nets in a grueling game before the NBA suspended the rest of the season for at least 30 days.
The game went wire-to-wire under a minute left in regulation with Anthony Davis missing the game-winning triple at the buzzer to give the purple and yellow their eight loss inside Staples Center in 31 games played at home. The defense needs to be tough and contact with other players has been harder and more aggressive, especially for a game as close as this.
Looking at the numbers, let us revisit that game that was done before the NBA announced that the league will be suspended indefinitely.
RESULTS: 104-102
Down by three 99-102, DeAndre Jordan had his chances as he was awarded two free throws to bring the lead up to five for the Nets but the 6-foot-11 big man missed his charities. The Lakers responded with Anthony Davis sinking the triple from straight away. Spencer Dinwiddie made a clutch basket off an 18-foot jumper to give the lead back to Brooklyn.
LeBron missed what is usually a gimme for him before the scramble for the loose ball. LeBron attacked the basket, drew three defenders before giving the ball to an open Davis in front of Kevin Durant and the Nets bench but was off-target.
MOST REBOUNDS
Lebron James and DeAndre Jordan both had 12 rebounds in the game. Battling for the rebounds against the big guys and with a defender trying to get the leather against one another. Davis added eight rebounds of his own and Markieff Morris added six off the bench for the Lakers.
Back-up center Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert both chipped in seven boards with the former as a non-starter for Brooklyn.
MINUTES PLAYED
The Nets’ starters played an average of 30 minutes in the game let by LeVert who played 38 minutes at the two-spot. Taurean Prince spent 28 minutes off the bench while four others played not less than 17 minutes, with an average of almost an entire half (22.3 minutes).
LeBron and Davis combined for 55 points in the game and was on the floor the most for coach Frank Vogel, with the former played 35 and the latter spent 37 minutes. Avery Bradley manned the point guard position for 31 minutes before Rajon Rondo and Alex Caruso entered the game for combined 30 minutes. Danny Green played 29 minutes and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope played 25 minutes off the bench. Starting center JaVale McGee only played 17 minutes.
MOST NUMBER OF DEFENSIVE PLAYS
Both steals and blocks stats aren’t eye-popping but contesting shots and reaching for the ball requires actions and physical strength to overpower the other. The Nets had three blocks and the Lakers had four and both teams had seven steals – only Rondo, Caldwell-Pope, Allen, and LeVert stripped the ball twice while the rest had one.
Now that tests will be done to the Lakers and the exposure that they’ve had with three other players who are still yet to be named, getting negative results for everybody is what everybody from the team is wishing for knowing that how serious coronavirus can spread from person to person through physical contact. Kevin Durant was on the bench and did not play but was infected by the unseen enemy and the interaction from the fans is what worries people the most.
The Lakers released a statement, saying that they’ve contacted their players and staff members and they will be following the protocol and consultation will be done with the UCLA health doctors. Brad Turner tweeted that the players have been contacted via conference call and was advised to do self-quarantine for two weeks.
