Real Madrid To Play Champions League Match Against Manchester City Without Former Star
KEY POINTS
- Real Madrid will be facing Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16
- Gareth Bale was excluded in the lineup for the upcoming match
- It has been reported that Bale and Zinedine Zidane don’t see eye to eye
The incoming match of the Champions League round of 16 of Real Madrid against Manchester City will require the defending La Liga champions to be in top form. But a noticeable difference in their lineup includes the exclusion of former star winger Gareth Bale.
The past few months haven’t been the best for the Welsh superstar as he’s been relegated to the bench of Real Madrid. Considered as one of the more prolific players in the game, Bale only saw 16 appearances in this year’s La Liga season and was seated on the bench for 10 games. The relationship between Bale and Zinedine Zidane hasn’t been as smooth stemming back over a year ago. There have been several instances where the two didn’t see eye to eye.
The four-time Champions League winner was seen as one of the best stars in the world with the way he dominated on the field. Throughout his career, he was able to make a name for himself as a proficient scorer. In 203 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, he scored 56 times and tallied 58 assists. The former Player of the Year for Tottenham then transferred to Real Madrid in 2013 where he has currently played in 251 games coupled with 105 goals and 68 assists.
The upcoming match against Manchester City has Bale out of the lineup. It is likely that Bale will no longer have a place in the team in the near future if this keeps up. Having Bale included in the upcoming match would have caused more tension, as he would have sat the bench either way, per Fansided’s The Real Champs.
The latest La Liga championship was the 34th trophy of Real Madrid as it adds to the illustrious list of achievements of the organization. The Champions League is familiar territory for Zinedine Zidane as a manager given how he’s piled up multiple accolades as a leader of a club. With three straight titles from 2016-2018, Real Madrid will have their eyes set for another trophy for their club.
It will be expected that the stars of Los Blancos can take over for Real Madrid against Manchester City. Whether or not Bale is included in the roster, it will be interesting to see how Real Madrid will fare in a high-stakes match.
