The Real Reason Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Are Moving
They’ve made their home at Kensington Palace, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be heading to the country prior to the birth of their first child.
According to reports, an official statement from Kensington Palace stated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be leaving their residence there early next year in preparation for the birth of their first child together. Instead, the couple is returning to the grounds of Windsor Castle, where they wed in May, and will be moving into Frogmore Cottage, a home on the Windsor estate.
“Windsor is a very special place for their royal highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate,” the statement read.
The statement notably comes shortly after the news that Harry and his brother, Prince William, are planning to make a formal division in the monarchy, and there have been reports that there is some tension between the brothers. It’s unclear if that is the reason why the younger couple will be making the move.
It’s worth noting however that they will be keeping an office at Kensington Palace, and they also aren’t the only members of the family to potentially express a preference for a more suburban life. NBC News reports that Windsor Castle is actually one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite homes and that she also prefers it to her more formal residence at Buckingham Palace.
Notably, Prince William and Kate Middleton also have their own country residence, which isn’t far from the Queen’s Sandringham estate. That home, Anmer Hall, is where they often stay during the holidays, and they have also vacationed there several times. Their official residence is still at Kensington Palace.
Whether the move is due to the reported plans to divide the monarchy up, or it is simply because the royal couple seeks a life for their child that is a bit quieter after it is born, it appears that the new home is an official deal.
