The Real Story Behind Chris Martin, Dakota Johnson’s Engagement

Despite rumors, Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson are not engaged, according to Gossip Cop.

The rumor, which started with an article in “Life & Style” titled “Chris & Dakota Engaged!” claimed an anonymous insider confirmed the “Fifty Shades” actress and the Coldplay singer were engaged. But the article did not have any substantial details or proof to back the story.

When Gossip Cop reached out to a representative for Johnson, they said they believed there wasn’t any truth to the tabloid’s story.

The article by the tabloid said the couple was not worried about getting matching infinity tattoos on their arms due to the engagement. The article also alleged the Coldplay frontman had “already popped the question” to Johnson, to which she replied yes.

The tabloid asserted the couple was “keeping their engagement a secret.”

An anonymous “source” was quoted throughout the article, who claimed the singer was “worried that his ex-wife [Gwyneth Paltrow] is going to freak to when she finds out.”

The article in the tabloid ended with the anonymous source alleging “Chris and Dakota have been looking at a variety of venues… and love the idea of a barefoot beach wedding in Malibu.”

All the claims in the article were debunked. While the source told the magazine about Martin proposing to Johnson, they give no details such as the date, and venue of the incident.

As Gossip Cop pointed out, Paltrow was all set to marry United States-based television producer Brad Falchuk. She announced her engagement in January this year.

“I have tried to accept how complex romantic love can be. I have decided to give it (marriage) a go again, not only because I believe I have found the man I was meant to be with, but because I have accepted the soul-stretching, pattern-breaking opportunities that (terrifyingly) are made possible by intimacy,” Paltrow said in an interview for lifestyle magazine Goop.

Paltrow has also talked about her relationship with Martin in prior interviews.

“We’re still very much a family, even though we don’t have a romantic relationship. He’s like my brother,” she said in a February 2016 interview. Martin was married to Paltrow for 12 years and has two children together Apple, 14, and Moses, 12.

Earlier this month, 41-year-old Martin and 28-year-old Johnson were spotted with matching infinity tattoos on their arms. Johnson’s tattoo was spotted on her outer elbow, while Martin’s was on his inner arm. This could be what prompted the article that said the two were secretly engaged.

Reports of the two being together first surfaced in October last year when Johnson was spotted in an exclusive area at a Coldplay concert in Argentina. According to reports, the duo has been dating for about a year.

“Dakota and Chris are definitely dating,” a source told Us Weekly. “They’ve gotten to know each other really well and are very comfortable from one another. Chris sends Dakota his music to get her opinion. It’s more than just a fling.”
