Rebel Wilson Reflects On Weight Loss Journey, Admits She 'Emotionally Eats At Times'
KEY POINTS
- Rebel Wilson said she lost close to 80 pounds last year
- The "Pitch Perfect" star was sad that she didn't work on losing weight earlier
- Wilson initially thought she wouldn’t be able to reach her weight goal
Rebel Wilson has already achieved her weight goal, but she realized she should have worked on it earlier.
The "Pitch Perfect" star declared 2020 as her "year of health." Wilson, 41, worked on shedding the extra pounds and she made it before the year ended.
In her recent interview with People, she looked back at her weight loss journey and shared that a part of her was sad. She initially thought she couldn't make it, but after successfully doing it, she realized that she should have done it years ago.
"One of the emotions was that I'm sad I didn't do it before," she told the outlet. "Last year, I lost a lot of weight — close to 80 lbs. — and then I've maintained it for this year. [So] part of me was like, 'Well, damn! If I could have done it before, should I have done it?' And I felt a bit sad about that point."
Although she had some regrets, she explained why she couldn't make it earlier. Apparently, she lacked faith in herself that she could do it because every time she lost a few pounds in the past, she would only gain them back. "So I never thought that I could successfully do it," she said.
Wilson made a shift in her perspective last year and convinced herself to prioritize her health even if she was already in her 40s. She encouraged herself that it was never too late to improve her health and herself.
Wilson said her successful weight loss journey made her feel better about herself. However, she also admitted that there were times when she still "emotionally eats."
"I'm not perfect, like, I still emotionally eat at times, there's stressful things that still go on in my life and in my work that can be high pressure, ... but I'm not perfect. I've [just] learned to manage things," she added.
According to the "How to be Single" star, she encountered some problems in her career due to her weight. When she was still new in the acting industry, many would turn her down because she was too big. So, she decided to make use of her figure to her advantage. Her weight became her biggest asset because it landed her the character Fat Amy in the "Pitch Perfect" movie series, which "made me famous internationally and earned millions of dollars."
While Wilson was able to turn her former weight into a success story in terms of her career, she decided to lose weight for her health.
"People are beautiful at any shape or size, and I genuinely believe that. I just got to a point where I knew deep inside that I was engaging in some activities that were unhealthy," she said.
Wilson documented her weight loss journey on Instagram. She announced last November that she finally reached her target weight of 75 kilograms (165 pounds) and had a month to spare while showing a photo of a scale with the number 74.6 on it.
