Reese Witherspoon was sued for her dress giveaway to teachers during the early days of pandemic.

In April, Witherspoon’s fashion brand Draper James offered a dress giveaway to teachers for their hard work amid the pandemic. The brand announced it on Instagram.

“Dear Teachers: We want to say thank you. During quarantine, we see you working harder than ever to educate our children,” the announcement read.

“To show our gratitude, Draper James would like to give teachers a free dress.”

According to TMZ, three women are putting together a class-action lawsuit against “The Morning Show” star and Draper James for their highly-publicized promotion.

Based on the lawsuit, the participants provided their personal information to the fashion line including their contact information and sensitive education employment ID. However, they were not informed that the brand only had 250 dresses to give away. At present, the IG post stated that the offer is valid “while supplies last.”

Nearly 1 million teachers participated in the promo. All of them thought they would be receiving free dresses.

The women who filed the lawsuit on behalf of all the participants pointed out that 250 dresses would only cost the company an estimated amount of $12,500. Meanwhile, other celebrities as famous as Witherspoon have been donating millions for COVID-19.

Theane Evangelis, Drapers James’ lawyer, issued a statement to TMZ to address the matter.

“This lawsuit is an unjust attempt to exploit Draper James' good intentions to honor the teacher community by gifting hundreds of free dresses. The fact that supplies were limited, such that a free dress could not be provided to every teacher who responded, was disclosed and is no basis for a lawsuit,” Evangelis said.

“Draper James looks forward to defending this case, to continuing its efforts to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions made by teachers during this time of need, and to being vindicated in court.”

In related news, Witherspoon will be reprising her role as Atty. Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde 3.” Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor are co-writing the third installment of the popular movie series.

“Elle Woods is so iconic, proving you can be girly and smart at the same time. Bend and snap people!” Kaling wrote on Instagram.
