  • The remastered Mac OS X wallpapers provide support for full P3 wide color gamut
  • The wallpapers are available for free download from the developer’s website
  • Users may individually download the wallpaper that matches their device

Users of iOS can now enjoy an updated version of Mac OS X wallpapers in higher resolution, thanks to a free online download.

Rafael Conde, a developer, remastered several old Mac OS X wallpapers into full 6K resolution. The developer made them available online for free to iPhone, iPad and Mac devices.

Softpedia News reported that the remastered wallpapers look brand new. They even provide support for the full P3 wide color gamut.

On Sept. 6, Conde posted a Twitter update sharing a “little thing” that he did over the weekend. Along with the update is a video showcasing several Mac OS wallpapers.

The video runs for 20 seconds with the Exodus Honey playing in the background. Exodus Honey is the song that plays behind the introduction video of Mac OS Leopard and Mac OS Snow Leopard.

The video showcasing slides of various wallpapers came from the OSX.photo, a website that Conde runs. iPhone, iPad and Mac users may download the remastered wallpapers in 6k resolution from the website.

The full pack of the wallpapers is 18MB in size. For those who do not want to acquire the full package and would rather go for the wallpapers applicable to their specific devices, they may hover at the options just below the video.

There are four wallpaper options: two Aurora wallpapers from Leopard and Leopard Snow and two Galaxy wallpapers from Lion and Mountain Lion.

Below each remastered Mac OS X wallpapers are options for 6K, iPad and iPhone. Users can hover over the option that matches their device and download the wallpaper at a smaller size ranging from 436KB to a maximum of 4.1MB.

In a statement, Conde described his creation as something that is not perfect but it was the best that he could do.

“Nothing fancy, I tracked down original versions of the wallpapers, upscaled them using Machine Learning, applied a P3 color space, Machine Learning to de-noise,” he said. “And then manually tweaked them to more closely match how I remembered them,” the developer added.
