'Resident Evil 7' Free DLC Release Date, Third Add-On Announced
Capcom has officially announced that the Not a Hero free DLC for “Resident Evil 7” will be arriving on Dec. 12. Additionally, the video game publisher also announced a new content pack and a Gold Edition of the game which will arrive on the same day.
The Not a Hero DLC was supposed to arrive in spring 2017 as a free additional content for all “Resident Evil 7” owners. Unfortunately, Capcom announced in April that the free additional content had to be delayed because the developers believed that the DLC “was not good enough” to meet the fans’ high expectations.
At the time, Capcom didn’t give out a new release window for the Not a Hero DLC, which led to fans to simply speculate on a new release date. Yesterday, Capcom announced that the Not a Hero DLC will finally arrive on Dec. 12, which is pretty far off from its initial spring 2017 release date. Although that may be a longer wait than what fans wanted, at least now they have an exact date to wait for.
The Not a Hero DLC will have fans play as Chris Redfield, one of the original protagonists of the “Resident Evil” franchise. The free DLC will take place directly after the events of the main “Resident Evil 7” campaign and will pit Redfield against enemies in the underground areas of the Baker estate. Capcom also teased that the DLC will feature a new kind of enemy besides the usual Molded creatures.
“Join ‘Resident Evil’ mainstay Chris Redfield as he battles his way through the horrors that lurk underneath the Baker’s mansion, fully prepared with new weapons and equipment designed to counter bio organic threats and navigate the maze-like caverns beneath the Baker mansion,” Capcom said on its Unity Blog. “Encounters with deadly foes lurk around every corner – including a new type of enemy.”
“Resident Evil 7” already had two add-on content with “Banned Footage” volume 1 and 2. Capcom also announced a third add-on content entitled End of Zoe, which will be available on Dec. 12, as well. Capcom didn’t give out a lot of details on what End of Zoe will be about, but it did say that it will also take place after the events of “Resident Evil 7” and that it will explore what happened to Zoe Baker. Like the Not a Hero DLC, End of Zoe will be playable with the PlayStation VR.
The last time players saw Zoe was right before heading to the shipwreck area of the main campaign. Players had to choose whether to save Mia or Zoe with the cure. If players choose Mia, Zoe will be left behind. If players choose to save Zoe, she ends up lost in the swamp. Zoe later reappears inside the shared consciousness of Eveline, suggesting that she did indeed die.
The End of Zoe add-content will be available to those who purchase the Gold Edition and Deluxe Edition of “Resident Evil 7,” as well as the game’s Season Pass. The add-on content is also available to buy as a separate purchase and will cost $14.99, accoridng to Polygon.
The new “Resident Evil 7” Gold Edition will also be available on Dec. 12 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC. This version of the game is bundled with the full game, the previously released “Banned Footage” Vol. 1 and 2, End of Zoe and the Not a Hero DLC. Pricing for the Gold Edition hasn’t been announced yet.
