'RHONJ' Star Teresa Giudice To Serve Time At 'Orange Is The New Black' Prison; Halfway House Request Denied
Piper Chapman, Alex Vause, Red, Crazy Eyes and Teresa Giudice? The “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star will be joining the “Orange is the New Black” crew in prison. Well, not exactly, but Giudice will be serving her prison sentence in the same prison that inspired the hit Netflix series.
Giudice will be spending 15 months in prison starting on Jan. 5, 2015, after being found guilty of multiple counts of fraud. Giudice and her husband, Joe, who was also found guilty of the same charges, were both sentenced to prison time in a Federal court on Oct. 2. Joe Giudice will begin his 41-month sentence when Teresa Giudice is released.
TV Guide is reporting that Giudice will serve out her term at a prison camp in Danbury, Connecticut. The prison camp is the very same minimum-security facility that housed Piper Kerman after she was found guilty of drug trafficking in 2004. Kerman subsequently wrote a memoir that became the basis of the popular Netflix series “Orange is the New Black,” which premiered in July 2013 and is entering its third season.
Giudice reportedly requested to be placed in the Danbury prison camp as its proximity to her New Jersey home would allow her husband and children to be able to visit her in prison. While that request was granted, another request to have Giudice serve half of her sentence in a halfway house (which would have allowed her to work and visit home on the weekends) was denied.
Giudice will report to authorities in January 2015.
