  • "Riverdale" creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa issued an apology to Vanessa Morgan
  • He also said the show's writers donated to the Black Lives Matter movement
  • Morgan said she was the least paid regular among their cast

After "Riverdale’s" Vanessa Morgan, who played Toni Topaz in the CW series, called out the show in candid social media posts for allegedly using her “as the token biracial bisexual” and for being the least paid among the regular cast members, creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa acknowledged the actress’ sentiments and apologized to her.

Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also a writer and showrunner of “Riverdale,” promised to do better moving forward in an Instagram post. He also noted that they will celebrate Morgan’s character more from now on.

“We hear Vanessa. We love Vanessa. She's right. We're sorry and we make the same promise to you that we did to her. We will do better to honor her and the character she plays. As well as all of our actors and characters of color," the exec said.

Aguirre-Sacasa went on to say that change is and will continue to happen, adding that “Riverdale” will be a part of the movement and will also get bigger. He then revealed that the writers of the show donated to the Black Lives Matter movement but clarified that the work must also happen within them.

On May 31, Morgan expressed her frustration over black people being represented in the media as dangerous or scary, NBC reported. The Canadian actress also slammed how they are always written as “sidekick non-dimensional characters to our white leads.”

Morgan continued by saying that she is exhausted with only being “used in the ads for diversity but not actually in the show. It starts with the media." Some fans defended her by calling out other cast members of “Riverdale.”

However, the actress, who plays a South Side Serpent member, rushed to her co-stars’ defense and clarified that they had nothing to do with this issue. Morgan also said that they got her back.

Apart from her, “Riverdale” stars KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, Madelaine Petsch, and Lili Reinhart. The latter recently came out as bisexual and expressed her support for Morgan.

On top of these, Morgan also claimed she gets paid the least among series regulars. She hopped on board the show in Season 2 and signed on as a regular ahead of the third run.
