‘Riverdale’ Season 2 Spoilers: KJ Apa Teases Archie’s Darker Side
“Riverdale” Season 2 will feature a darker Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) in its upcoming episodes.
In the finale for Season 1, Archie’s dad, Fred (Luke Perry), was shot by a masked man at Pop’s Diner. It is still unclear if Fred will survive, but by the looks of it, Archie will do everything to find out who attempted to kill his father.

While speaking with TV Line, Apa said, “The death of Fred is still unclear, but either way, it’s going to change Archie’s life forever. We’re going to see a darker side to him.”
Earlier this month, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa spoke with Vulture (via Spoilers Guide) to tease how Fred’s shooting would impact Archie. Since Archie and Fred only have each other before the former’s mom resurfaced, the lead character is obviously devastated after what happened. “This is a huge impact for Archie, obviously. What happened to Fred is like Bruce Wayne seeing his parents gunned down in Crime Alley in Gotham City. It completely changes him and it galvanizes him and gives him purpose,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Apa also opened up about the time he got injured while filming on the set of the hit CW series. At the time, Apa was filming a scene where his character was trying to save Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch). “That was a gnarly day of shooting, I’ll tell you that much. I wasn’t really punching the ice, but I got a little bit too excited. I was matching a foam mat that was sitting on the ice. It was cold, so I didn’t really feel it. It wasn’t until 20 minutes after that I realized I broke my hand. I didn’t tell anyone,” he said.
“Riverdale” Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. EST. As of late, it is still unclear how many episodes the upcoming season will have. In Season 1, The CW released only a total of 13 episodes, but the ratings for the new series were impressive so “Riverdale” got picked up for Season 2 very early on.
