KEY POINTS
- MLB player Michael Kopech filed for divorce from wife Vanessa Morgan in June
- The news comes just days after the "Riverdale" star announced her pregnancy on Instagram
- Kopech is confirmed to be the father of Morgan's child
“Riverdale” star Vanessa Morgan, who recently announced her pregnancy, and her husband, Chicago White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech, are ending their marriage just six months after tying the knot.
Court documents obtained by The Chicago Tribune revealed that the MLB star filed for divorce in Texas on June 19, more than a month before Morgan revealed the big news on her Instagram. A rep for the actress confirmed that Kopech is indeed the father of her child.
In a series of videos and pictures, Morgan shared that she was expecting a baby boy in January. “This little guy has already brought me so much happiness and a feeling of such a greater purpose. I cannot wait to meet you!!” she wrote.
The soon-to-be-mom also explained that while she grew up in the public eye — having started her acting career at 6 — she would be raising her son away from the spotlight.
“Lil one you were made with so much love & already exude a light so strong it warms my belly. Thank you God for this blessing. I’m just so happy & can’t wait to dedicate everyday to being the best mommy I can be,” Morgan wrote.
Along with pictures from the gender reveal celebration, Morgan also shared a snap of a couple of pregnancy tests with the date May 20.
It is worth noting, however, that Kopech was not mentioned in the caption.
Reports of their divorce come six months after they tied the knot in January. Morgan previously said that she and the athlete started dating in June 2018 after getting in touch on social media. “If it wasn't for social media, we would have never known each other," the 28-year-old Canadian actress quipped to E! News.
Kopech popped the question to Morgan in July last year, and they got married in January in Homestead, Florida, Us Weekly reported. Meanwhile, the sportsman famously dropped out of the 2020 baseball season earlier this July.
