Robert De Niro To Receive SAG Life Achievement Award
Actor Robert De Niro will be honored with SAG-AFTRA’s highest honor – SAG Life Achievement Award – for his accomplishments in the acting profession.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 76-year-old will receive the prestigious award at the 26th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) on Jan. 19, 2020, in Los Angeles. Speaking about the award, the “Joker” star shared that he has been a member of this union for 50 years and it is an “honor” to be receiving the award at this point in his career.
SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris congratulated De Niro for the award and shared that the two-time Academy Award-winning star is an actor of extraordinary depth and ability. The characters he has been portraying for the big-screen have always managed to captivate everyone’s imaginations.
Cateris noted that it is a great privilege for him and his organization to announce that the highest honor of SAG-AFTRA will be presented to “one of the most singular talents of our generation.”
De Niro started his career in the year 1965 with a short movie named “Encounter.” But his moment of glory came in 1974 when he got a chance to show his acting skills alongside Marlon Brando in “The Godfather: Part II.” After that, there was no looking back for the actor.
He was part of critically-acclaimed movies like “Taxi Driver” (1976), “Raging Bull” (1980), “The King of Comedy” (1982), “Goodfellas” (1990) and many more.
The star has 2 Oscars to his name. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for “The Godfather: Part II” in 1975 and got his hands on the Best Actor trophy in 1981 for portraying a character of a boxer in “Raging Bull.”
In related news, De Niro is busy these days promoting his upcoming movie “The Irishman.” Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film has already been labeled as Scorsese’s best work in recent times. The movie has garnered universal acclaim and currently has a 96 percent score on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
The cast of the movie includes Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Ray Romano.
The film will be streaming live on Netflix on Nov. 27.
