Rock Star Surrenders to SWAT Team After 5-hour Standoff
Nick Oliveri, the bassist for the rock band Queens of the Stone Age, was taken into custody by Los Angeles police Tuesday night after fending off a S.W.A.T. team for five hours.
The police were called to investigate a domestic dispute. Oliveri's girlfriend was allegedly struck by the musician during an argument Monday, and when she returned to gather her possessions yesterday, Oliveri locked her in. He reportedly had a loaded, high-powered rifle in his possession.
After two hours, he let his girlfriend leave the Hollywood duplex, but the 39-year-old Los Angeles native remained holed up in the residence for more than two additional hours before surrendering.
Oliveri was charged with a domestic violence felony and allowed free on $100,000 bail.
Oliveri is also known for being a member of the bands Kyuss and Mondo Generator.
