Romney Attacks Obama, States ‘I Can Fix Washington'

Mitt Romney is attempting to adopt a theme of change to his campaign against President Barack Obama. The Republican presidential nominee new approach is in response to Obama’s statement: "you can't change Washington from the inside," reports the Associated Press.

"I can change Washington," Romney said Thursday, according to AP. "I will change Washington. We'll get the job done from the inside. Republicans and Democrats will come together."

Romney’s claim that he can end the polarized bipartisan nature in the United States capital is his latest attempt to draw in more moderate voters. AP expects the conservative party leader to continue pressing the issue of Obama’s fragmented quote on Friday in Nevada, where there's abundant problems in housing and unemployment.

The quote that Romney is using to disenfranchise Obama voters is only a piece of the statement the President actually gave.

"You can't change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside,” said President Obama at the University of Miami, claims AP . "So something that I'd really like to concentrate on in my second term is being in a much more constant conversation with the American people so that they can put pressure on Congress to help move some of these issues forward."

The idea of open communication isn’t new to the president, who participated in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) thread on Reddit last month. Obama gave long answers to questions about Internet freedom, the space program, and even the recipe for the White House beer.

The Obama campaign didn’t take long to respond to the attacks from the GOP frontman. Apparently, Romney made a nearly identical quote in 2007, while running for the 2008 Republican nomination that he lost to John McCain.

"I don't think you change Washington from the inside,” the Obama campaign alleges Romney said, according to the Washington Post. “I think you change it from the outside."

Obama’s re-election campaign also asserted that this is not a new message from the president.

“What the President said today is no different than what he has been saying for many years – that change comes from outside Washington, not inside,” said Obama campaign spokeswoman Liz Smith, according to the Post. “Mitt Romney apparently doesn’t believe that change comes from the American people.”

Despite the Obama campaign claims, the Republican presidential hopeful is continuing his attack. “The President today threw in the white flag of surrender again,” Romney said at a rally in Sarasota, Fla. on Thursday, reports the Post.
