Royal Aides Rescinded Bullying Complaints Against Meghan Markle, Reveals 'Finding Freedom' Epilogue
KEY POINTS
- Meghan Markle was previously accused of bullying royal staffers
- Buckingham Palace confirmed in June that a probe into the complaints was ongoing
- Meghan's team dismissed the allegations as an "attack on her character"
Members of the Palace staff who accused Meghan Markle of bullying them have rescinded their complaints to HR. This was revealed in the new epilogue of “Finding Freedom,” the controversial biography that centers on the married lives of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Days before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Times published a report about Meghan’s alleged bullying of royal staffers. According to the report, the Duchess drove two personal assistants out of the household and was undermining the confidence of a third staff member. The news outlet cited emails in its report, suggesting that a royal aide had leaked the information to the press.
One of the exposed emails was from Prince Harry and Meghan’s former communications director, Jason Knauf, who wrote to Kensington Palace Private Secretary Simon Case in October 2018 to express his growing concern about Meghan’s alleged misconduct. In the said email, Knauf claimed the Duchess was “able to bully two PAs out of the household in the past year,” adding that her treatment of the royal staffers was “totally unacceptable.”
“The duchess seems intent on always having someone in her sights. She is bullying [name redacted] and seeking to undermine her confidence. We have had report after report from people who have witnessed unacceptable behavior towards [name redacted],” the report quoted Knauf as saying.
However, the epilogue of “Finding Freedom” revealed that after Knauf’s email had been brought to light, two of the royal aides mentioned in Knauf’s email asked that the allegations they had made to HR about their bad experiences with Meghan be quashed.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the royal staffers rescinded their complaints. In June 2021, however, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the probe about the complaints against Meghan was ongoing.
Meanwhile, Meghan’s camp was quick to deny the allegations against her in a statement to E! News after the reports about her bullying came out. “The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma,” the statement read.
