Ahead of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration ceremony, Queen Elizabeth II reached out to the 46th president of the United States, personally. The 94-year-old monarch sent a private message to Biden before he officially assumed the office Wednesday.
While the details of the message from the British monarch to the new U.S. President were not revealed, the news was confirmed by a palace spokesman to Evening Standard.
“Her Majesty sent a private message to President Biden ahead of the inauguration,” Evening Standard quoted the Buckingham Palace official as saying.
The queen was among the many global leaders to congratulate Biden ahead of his swearing-in ceremony.
Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-serving female head of state in the world and the oldest living monarch. In her 68-years of reign, she has seen 14 American presidents in power. The sovereign has reportedly met every U.S. President except Lyndon B. Johnson, according to Hello.
It is believed that she will be meeting the new president as well at some point and one can expect a grand palace reception at the moment. However, there is no such news yet.
Nevertheless, there is one member of the royal family who has already met with Donald Trump’s successor, and that is Prince Harry, who is now residing in California since he stepped back from his royal duties. Hello noted the Duke of Sussex first met president’s wife Jill Biden in the year 2013 during a reception for British and U.S. wounded servicemen in Washington. They have since been spotted together on multiple occasions, as per the report.
Jill also attended Invictus Games in London, a year later. During the event, Jill and Prince Harry were seen spending a lot of time together about which Joe joked to Guardian newspaper.
“But my wife was with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games,” said Joe as quoted by the outlet. “The vice-president’s wife! I’m a little worried here, you know what I mean?”
In 2017, Joe attended Invictus Games Toronto with Prince Harry.
Meanwhile, the U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson also sent out his wishes to the U.S. President and Vice President, and wrote: “Congratulations to @JoeBiden on being sworn in as President of the United States and to @Kamala Harris on her historic inauguration. America’s leadership is vital on the issues that matter to us all, from climate change to Covid, and I look forward to working with President Biden.”
