Prince Philip will turn 98 years old this year, while Prince Charles will celebrate his 71st birthday in November.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans are wondering what would happen if the future king outlives Prince Philip. Elizabeth Nield said that Prince Philip, who has already retired from public office, has also lived longer than both of his parents. The Duke of Edinburgh seems to have tons of health problems so it is highly unlikely for him to live longer than his eldest son.

"I have a feeling that when he dies, the Queen might not be long in following. The two do seem to be very much in love, true soulmates," she said.

Melodie Neal also said that based on the trio’s track record, there is a good chance that Prince Charles would Prince Philip and even Queen Elizabeth II.

“However, I would be reluctant to make a significant wager on the matter,” she said.

Dan Weinberg, who works at UK civil service, also said that since Prince Philip is already 97 years old, there is no doubt that Prince Charles would outlive his dad.

Meanwhile, royal fans also weighed in on whether or not they think Prince Charles would outlive Queen Elizabeth II. Some royal fans are convinced that it is possible even though Her Majesty could also live beyond 100 years old.

The Queen’s mom, the Queen Mother, passed away at the age of 101. If the Queen will be blessed with such a long life, it means that she still has 8 more years to live. By the time she turns 101, Prince Charles will only be 79. In this case, he could sit on the throne just before he turns 80 years old.

John R. Grout said that things could go either way for the royal family because the typical 70-year-old man has a longer life expectancy compared to a typical 93-year-old woman.

L. Rocky Brownlee, a graduate of Northwestern University, said that Prince Charles obviously has good aging genes. Assuming that he is in good health, it is safe to assume that he can live for at least another 20 years.

However, Brownlee doesn’t think that the Queen could make it to 113 years old no matter how good she looks at the moment.

“So he will, in all likelihood, will outlive her,” she said.
