Russell Simmons Says Mayor Bloomberg Did Terrible Job With NYC Homeless During Hurricane Sandy

Entrepreneur Russell Simmons is not pleased with how Mayor Bloomberg treated the homeless during Hurricane Sandy.

"They're [expletive] ... it's terrible,” Simmons replied in regards to the NYC homeless population when asked by TMZ how they would be impacted by the storm.

"I mean I love Mayor Bloomberg. But he did a [expletive] job with the homeless ... and now look at the mess ... really, I don't know what to say."

According to MSNBC, the devastating storm killed at least 46 Americans and left millions without power.

At a news conference on Tuesday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said in regards to the death toll and unimaginable damage, “We are in the midst of urban search and rescue. Our teams are moving as fast as they can.

"The devastation on the Jersey Shore is some of the worst we've ever seen. The cost of the storm is incalculable at this point."

Christie added, "I didn’t think it would be that bad. I didn’t think you’d see homes in the middle of highways.”

New Jersey faced some of the worst property damage, with boardwalks in such popular seaside towns as Spring Lake completely gone and covered with sand. Christie said it would take months to recover.

According to Bloomberg, the recovery from Hurricane Sandy, overall, is expected to cost at least $20 billion.

"This will be one for the record books," John Miksad, senior vice president for electric operations at Consolidated Edison, said in a statement. “This will be the largest storm-related outage in our history.”

Mayor Bloomberg announced Tuesday that New York City public schools would be closed again on Wednesday, and the MTA is currently assessing the damage done to NYC trains, which are closed indefinitely. Buses, however, are running on a limited schedule with free fare on Wednesday for passengers.
