The Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully pushed back Russian soldiers attempting to advance in several directions in Ukraine as the war nearly reaches its half-year mark, according to a report.
The Russian military attempted to conduct an assault in the directions of Brazhkivka, Nova Dmytrivka, Dovhenhe, Dolyna, Sulhivka, Dibrivne, Petropillia and Karnaukhivka on Sunday. However, the Ukrainian army's defenses caused losses to the Russian army and forced it to pull back from its positions.
"Glory to Ukraine! The one hundred seventy ninths (179) day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to a russian military invasion continues. [The Russian army] tried to conduct assault and offensive actions in the directions Brazhkivka - Nova Dmytrivka, Dovhenke - Dolyna, Sulyhivka - Dibrivne and Petropillia - Karnaukhivka, suffered losses and retreated," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF) said in a report.
It said that the Ukrainian army also successfully prevented the Russian military from gaining ground in several directions in Donetsk Oblast.
"The enemy waged offensive battles in the directions of Pokrovske - Bakhmutske, Semihirya - Zaitseve, Novoselivka - New York. It was strongly repulsed and retreated," the UAF General Staff said.
The Russian army also suffered losses while attempting to advance in the directions of Novoselivka Druha - Krasnohorivka, Vesele-Pisky and Oleksandrivka-Maryinka.
The UAF General Staff did not specify how many Russian soldiers were killed Sunday. The Kremlin has also not released an official military death toll since March.
However, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine estimated that the country's army killed 300 Russian soldiers Sunday, putting Russia's overall military death toll to 45,200. The Defense Ministry noted that the Russian army suffered the biggest losses in the Donetsk and Nikolaev directions.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine also noted that the UAF has destroyed a total of 1,912 Russian tanks, 4,224 combat armored machines, 1,028 artillery systems, 234 planes and 3,143 fuel tanks since the war began in February.
The reports come as Ukraine is preparing itself for a possible intensification of Russian missile strikes Wednesday, the same day Kyiv is celebrating its 31st Independence Day anniversary. Ukraine has now banned large gatherings in Kyiv for four days starting Monday.
