Vladimir Marugov, a Russian Business Tycoon nicknamed “The Sausage King,” was killed in a crossbow attack at his family estate near Moscow on Monday, reported CNN.

According to the media outlet, several masked intruders broke into the Russian oligarch’s countryside family estate and tied him up. They also demanded cash.

Marugov was reportedly with a woman in his sauna while the attackers broke into the house, reported BBC. The woman, identified as his ex-wife Tatyana Marugova, managed to escape through a window and inform the police about the incident.

When the police and forensic experts arrived at the scene, they found Marugov dead in the sauna. The crossbow used to shoot him was also found. "Several masked men entered the bathhouse ... tied up the owner of the house and his spouse, and then demanded money," reported Russia’s Investigative Committee (similar to the FBI in the US).

The police have detained an unnamed male suspect as part of the investigation.

The Investigative Committee also recovered a getaway car that has been linked to the crime. The said car was found in the outskirts of the town of Istra, outside Moscow. It is believed that the intruders used the vehicle when they fled the scene.

Marugov is the owner of Ozyorsky and Meat Empire Sausage factories in Russia. His son Alexander died in a motorcycle accident last year.

Russia was infamous for its grisly murders in the 1990s. However, according to a recent report by the Russian Legal Information Agency, its crime rate has dropped with the help of preventive maintenance in relation to predelinquents.
