Amid rumors of Ryan Gosling playing Nova's character in Marvel movies, the actor revealed the superhero he's interested in portraying -- Captain Canada.
"I don’t know anything about Nova, if that’s what you’re going to ask me," the 41-year-old Canadian actor told Josh Horowitz of MTV News in an interview shared on YouTube Tuesday.
"It doesn’t matter. I wasn’t right for it. But I would love to do it. It’s just, what’s the one? I was waiting for the Captain Canada call."
Captain Canada's character first appeared in 1970s comic books. The character was created by Geoff Stirling, his son Scott and artist Danny Bulanadi.
Ahead of this interview, Horowitz took to Twitter to reveal that Gosling also wants to play another iconic Marvel character, Ghost Rider.
"Ryan and I chatted about the Nova rumors yesterday which he said aren’t true," Horowitz wrote. "BUT this morning Ryan reached out to me to say there is one superhero he wants to play...GHOST RIDER."
While no actor has played Captain Canada yet, Gosling will not be the first person to play Ghost Rider on-screen as Nicolas Cage has previously portrayed the biker with a flaming skull.
Cage, 58, played Ghost Rider in two films, "Ghost Rider" released in 2007 and "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," released in 2011. Aside from Cage, actors like Lonut Cristian Lefter and Matt Long also portrayed Ghost Rider’s character.
Gosling's upcoming projects include the Netflix movie "The Gray Man," slated to release Friday. The flick is made with a budget of $200 million and it is helmed by directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The highly-anticipated movie also stars Chris Evans, Regé-Jean Page, Julia Butters, Jessica Henwick, Michael Gandolfini, Billy Bob Thornton and Alfre Woodard.
The actor is currently filming for "Barbie," a live-action movie featuring actress Margot Robbie as the title character while he plays Ken, her love interest.
Marvel Studios will release "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" on Nov. 11.
