Ryan Reynolds Recalls How His Brothers Protected Him From Their Father: 'He Was Scary'
Ryan Reynolds could not forget the moment his brothers saved him from what could have been an ugly moment with his father when he was around 12 years old.
The "Deadpool" star said back then he thought it was "a good idea" and "a cool thing" to get his ear pierced and he told one of his brothers about his plan. However, his brother warned him not to proceed with it because it will surely make their father angry.
"My brother said, 'You're going to die. You're going to show up at dinner tonight and there will be a messy stabbing death because Dad is going to take one of the utensils and stab you," Reynolds said in the first episode of Season 4 of David Letterman's Netflix talk show "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction," ET reported.
Reynolds, who was inspired by the pop duo Wham! , said he did not heed his brother's advice and went on with his plan.
"I get to the dinner table and I remember sweat was dripping down my lap and I'm looking down and I can feel his gaze hit me," Reynolds shared. "He mutters some swear word under his breath, and I look up and I look around and I see that all three of my brothers had gotten an earring to sorta save me."
Upon hearing the intriguing tale, Letterman exclaimed, "Oh my god." Reynolds replied, "Yeah, one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life."
He said his father "worked tirelessly to provide for his family and in return, you were expected to do what he said, often before he said it...He was scary."
The "Free Guy" star had earlier mentioned the piercing story in a Time article.
In the piece written in 2014, Reynolds talked about how he sometimes felt like a "moving target" because he was the youngest. "All four of us were at war under our roof. Alliances were forged and broken daily," he wrote.
The actor also described his father as "the toughest man alive: a former cop, former boxer and full-time landmine."
