Safaree Says He Wasn’t Paid For Work On Nicki Minaj’s ‘The Pinkprint’
On Monday, Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend, Safaree Samuels, took to his Snapchat to upload a video featuring a platinum plaque for the “No Frauds” rapper’s last album, “The Pinkprint.” While showing off the plaque, Safaree alleged that he wasn’t paid for his work on it.
“It’s crazy you could come somewhere and see your work and know that you ain’t get a damn thing for it,” he said, calling someone crooked. It’s uncertain if Safaree was calling out Nicki directly or aiming his anger at her record label, Cash Money Records. Watch the video (which contains NSFW language) below:
This isn’t the first time that the label and CEO, Birdman, have been accused of not paying artists. Rappers and producers such as Juvenile, DVLP and Lil Wayne have all claimed Birdman has withheld money from them.
In 2015, DVLP, also known as Develop, sued Birdman for $200,000, claiming he was never paid for his work on Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter” albums. The producer revealed text messages between him and Birdman, claiming he was “down years on these songs with no paperwork.” The Cash Money CEO continued to tell DVLP he would be paid.
While it’s unknown what role Safaree played in creating Minaj’s album, he has said in the past that he was involved in making it. During an appearance on the “Wendy Williams Show,” the rapper said he was part of the creative process up until the final few weeks.
During the last weeks is when Safaree claims he realized Nicki was cheating on him with Meek Mill. “In the last month that’s when we were just going through all the songs and stuff, and then I found out there were two songs with [Meek Mill] on the album,” he said. Minaj has not responded to any of the claims.
