Sam Heughan Reveals ‘Outlander’ Awards Campaign Billboard
“Outlander” Season 5 is not airing until February, but the Starz show is still hoping to get some awards season love for Season 4. A new poster indicates that “Outlander” is campaigning for the Golden Globes.
Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on the time travel drama, posted a photo on Instagram of a massive “Outlander” billboard that takes up two sides of a building. The photo features a recently released Season 5 promo photo of Heughan’s Jamie holding Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe. Along the left side, it says “FYC,” meaning For Your Consideration. The poster is located in Los Angeles, which is home to many awards season voters.
The “Bloodshot” actor seemed to approve of the advertising with an OK emoji.
Starz is running FYC campaigns for many of its scripted shows, including “Vida,” “Power” and “American Gods,” but “Outlander” clearly got the biggest billboard.
Balfe has been nominated for best actress at the Golden Globes four times. Heughan has never received the same acknowledgement, but that could change this year. However, only four episodes from last season are eligible for the Golden Globes this year. (The earlier episodes were eligible for last year’s ceremony.) Nominations will be announced on Dec. 10 (the same days Season 3 finally hits Netflix).
While the Golden Globes are the biggest awards ceremony for TV coming up, they aren’t the only voters “Outlander” might be aiming for. The Screen Actors Guild Awards are also coming up, with nominations out on Dec. 12. The Critics’ Choice Television Awards nominations will be announced on Dec. 8.
“Outlander” fans will remember that the show has picked up a statue recently. The Scotland-based production won a People’s Choice Award for favorite bingeworthy show last month. Heughan and Balfe, along with Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton, made a video together for the acceptance speech.
“Outlander” Season 5 will premiere as awards season is winding down. The Starz drama returns on Feb. 16.
