Sam Smith Admits Feeling ‘Scared, Excited’ For New Music After Year-Long Break
Sam Smith recently announced that he will be releasing new music “in the not so distant future.”
On his Instagram account on Thursday, the “Latch” singer penned a letter to his 7.4 million follower and said that he’s both “scared and excited” for his upcoming endeavor. Smith’s started his letter with several words of gratitude to the people who have supported him since he started his career in the music industry. He also expressed how much he has missed everyone after he went on a year-long break.
Unfortunately, Smith did not share specific details about his new music, but the singer said that he poured his whole being into his new songs. Last year, the “Stay With Me” crooner spoke with the Associated Press to say that his music will be so much “deeper” that his previous tracks.
“I’m putting my heart even more out on the f------ line. I’m going even deeper. I can’t believe I’m even doing it, but I’m going even deeper,” he said. Smith also dubbed his upcoming LP as a “beautiful transition” from “In the Lonely Hour.” However, the official release date for the singer’s new music has yet to be announced.
In 2016, Smith also spoke with Deadline to confirm that his plan to go on a year-long break. However, being nominated for an Academy Award changed things a bit for him. “Obviously, the Oscars have changed stuff a little bit, because I was meant to just have the entire year off. I’ve learned some stuff about myself in the past few months, and the truth is, I can’t take time off,” he said.
At that time, Smith said that he still doesn’t have any plans to release new music. “I just want the music to be right, so at the moment I’m just trying to get back to a comfortable place… I’m trying to live as well as little bit, and I think next month I’m going to force myself to just stay home and see my mom and dad and my sisters. Because I feel like I’ve missed out on their lives a bit the last few years, so that’s my plan,” he shared.
